Fidenza al Centro
IN APRIL 2013 THE FIRST BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT, CALLED ‘FIDENZA AL CENTRO’, WAS SET UP IN THE TOWN. IT WAS AN AMBITIOUS PROJECT WHICH AIMED TO PROMOTE THE TOWN’S HISTORIC CENTRE. THE SHOPS THAT SIGNED UP ENTHUSIASTICALLY TO THE INITIATIVE WERE HIGHLY DIVERSE BUT THEIR GOAL WAS THE SAME – KEEPING THE TOWN’S TRADITIONAL SENSE OF HOSPITALITY ALIVE.
Fidenza is located roughly in the middle of the historic European route Via Francigena but that is not all. Crossed by historic Via Emilia, in the past it was a famous trading crossroads and today its strategic position halfway between Milan and Bologna, at the centre of the Food and Motor Valleys, means it continues to be an important site of commercial and cultural exchange.
Who knows whether the singer Mina, when she sang “Ma dove vai bellezza in bicicletta, così di fretta pedalando con ardor” (“Hey, where are you going, bicycling beauty, pedaling with passion, in such a hurry”) in 1983, would have ever imagined that a cycle route, which you are about to set out on, would emerge between the historic shops of Fidenza town centre and the Made in Italy boutiques which feature in the San Michele Campagna shopping centre. Fidenza town centre, its old town made up of streets and squares, represents the very concept of a business improvement district. Here there are more than 300 shops selling everything from crafts to ice creams, wedding dresses and jewellery as well as delicatessens, cafés, restaurants and much more. From the starting point of the historic centre, the new cycle track which starts at the train station leads to another shopping centre next to the Fidenza motorway toll booth with its Shopping Park and stylish luxury outlet Fidenza Village.ua ad essere importante luogo di scambi commerciali e culturali.
